Which is the cheapest country for MBBS abroad?
Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan usually occupy the lowest tuition bands in Global Edge’s August 2026 cards (~₹18–22 lakh). Uzbekistan sometimes shows the lowest annual pitch (~₹2 lakh a year on some university cards — that is not automatically the six-year total). Kazakhstan is typically next. Russia spans cheap-to-mid depending on the university. Georgia is the high band in this counselling set. NMC does not publish a cheapest-country table.
NMC instructs students intending to study medicine abroad to confirm the fee, course content, duration and internship from the university before taking admission, and states that it does not endorse any list of foreign medical institutions/universities.

Counsellor insight 1: “Which is cheapest?” is a country question. NMC will never mark the country. If the internship hospital is a different legal name, the cheap flag is irrelevant. Run how to check a foreign medical university before you treat a band as a budget.
Myth: “Pick the cheapest MBBS countries and NMC treats all five flags the same.”
Reality: FMGL tests the course. A low fee with English only in the prospectus, or a split internship, is not low-cost medical education. It is prepaid ineligibility.
Names families already have on WhatsApp are still verification targets, not a Global Edge whitelist. Careers360’s cheapest-country page cites Osh State University and International Medical University in Kyrgyzstan, and Tashkent / Samarkand names in Uzbekistan. Open WDOMS and the circular. Samarkand State Medical University, Bukhara State Medical Institute and Tashkent State Medical University sit in the April 2026 named-campus caution — that is a slow-down, not a bargain. Tashkent Medical Academy is not automatically Tashkent State Medical University. Georgia names live on MBBS in Georgia.
Are Bangladesh, Nepal or the Philippines cheaper?
Fee listicles often say yes. Global Edge does not counsel those countries. Collegedunia’s 2026 fees article names Bangladesh as cheapest (~₹15–25 lakh all-in) and lists Nepal, the Philippines and China beside Russia and Georgia. Those flags are outside our five-country set (Russia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan). If a family brings a Bangladesh/Nepal/Philippines offer, still run FMGL + notices — we will not invent an NMC stamp for a destination we do not map.

Tuition, sometimes. All-in six years, almost never in this counselling set — not as a complete, FMGL-shaped file. Kyrgyzstan/Uzbekistan tuition bands sit around ₹18–22 lakh. Add 72 months of living and you are already in the mid-twenties of lakhs before visa, insurance and flights. Consultancy pages that answer “yes” at ₹15–25 lakh including hostel and food are mixing a tuition floor with a package claim. Demand the circular.

Compare that dinner-table number with Indian private/deemed packages that often exceed ₹1 crore before hostel in MCC 2026 journalism — MBBS in India vs MBBS abroad. Abroad can still be the cheaper complete file. “Under 20 lakh all-in” is a different, usually false, sentence.
Some Uzbekistan university cards quote about ₹2 lakh a year. That line and a six-year table of ₹18–22 lakh cannot both be used as one number. Ask which years are billed. Then search NMC notices for that legal name — a low annual pitch does not override an alert note.

Coverage of NMC’s 1 April 2026 advisory reports that the Commission, citing the Indian Embassy in Tashkent, cautioned Indian students about named Uzbekistan institutions (including Bukhara State Medical Institute, Samarkand State Medical University, Tashkent State Medical University) and an offshore campus. A low total does not override that notice.

Is the cheapest university necessarily the best choice?
No. The cheapest university is the best choice only if the legal entity can meet current FMGL tests (54 months, 12-month internship in the same institution, English on the wards, local licence at par with citizens), is not the subject of a live NMC named-campus caution you have ignored, and the student will actually live there for six years. NMC puts the onus of a non-compliant campus on the student. Cheap + ineligible is the worst MBBS abroad budget.

- Only then compare with the next-cheapest verified option — including Georgia if the family can fund the higher band.

The tuition ranking inside this set did not flip: Kyrgyzstan/Uzbekistan still lead the cards; Georgia is still dearer. What changed is risk overlay: April 2026 named-campus caution on some Uzbekistan files, and Indian deemed fees (many MCC packages over ₹1 crore before hostel) which makes a verified ₹25–35 lakh abroad attendance look cheaper relative to India — not automatically safer.
