Read the Uzbekistan line twice. A card that says “₹2 lakh a year” and a table that says “₹18–22 lakh total” cannot both be used as if they were one number. Ask which years are billed, in which currency, and whether hostel is inside the tuition. Then search NMC notices for that legal name.

Myth: “MBBS abroad fees are the first-year tuition. Multiply by six if you want.”
Reality: Some universities raise fees after year one. Some “totals” omit internship year. Hostel is often a separate contract. A repeat year is a new invoice. Build the worksheet below; do not multiply a flyer.

The useful counselling hour is reconstructing six years on paper: hostel contract, winter clothing, visa renewal, and the fee if the student fails a year. Families who arrive with only a first-year screenshot are not comparing MBBS abroad cost. They are comparing advertisements.

Counsellor insight 2: “Lowest fees” is a search query. The counselling question is “lowest fundable, FMGL-shaped cost for this student.” Those two questions diverge on Uzbekistan in 2026 and on any campus whose internship hospital is a different legal entity.
Is MBBS abroad cheaper than private MBBS in India?
It can be, when you compare complete files: six-year foreign attendance (table above) versus the Indian private college’s full tuition plus hostel for the Indian course length. Families often mention private Indian quotes in the ₹80 lakh–₹1 crore dinner-table range — that is not an NMC statistic. A cheap foreign seat that cannot sit FMGE is not a saving. A fully funded Indian private MBBS with an Indian teaching hospital from day one can still be the better fit.
Compare like with like:
- Indian quote: years billed, hostel, caution deposit, “development” fees.
- Foreign quote: all billed years, hostel contract, visa years, flights, FX buffer, FMGE prep as a living cost in the final year.
Education loans (HDFC Credila, SBI, Axis and similar — examples, not endorsements) follow documents: offer letter, fee structure, KYC. They do not fund a slogan. Lenders will not treat a WhatsApp PDF as a circular.
NMC does not publish a foreign-MBBS fee schedule. Any rupee table you see on a consultancy site — including Global Edge’s country cards — is a counselling aid until the university’s own circular for your intake says otherwise.

How should Indian families build the 2026 budget?
- Freeze the university’s legal name and the circular (currency, years, fail-year fee).
- Convert tuition at a conservative FX rate; add 10% movement if the bill is not in INR.
- Price hostel/mess from a contract, not a verbal “₹10,000 is enough.”
- Add visa/residence for multiple years, insurance, and a realistic flight pattern.
- Write a repeat-year line. If the family cannot fund it, the file is already tight.
- Only then compare with an Indian private quote that also includes hostel.
- Search NMC notices for that campus before the first transfer. Pay only to the university account on the offer letter.
