Established in May 2022, SETU was formed through the  merger of two existing institutes of technology in the region: Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) and Institute of Technology Carlow (IT Carlow).

•  Atlantic Technological University (ATU) – Atlantic Technological University (ATU), or Ollscoil Teicneolaíochta an Atlantaigh in Irish, is a public technological university located in the west and northwest regions of Ireland. Established on April 1, 2022, ATU was formed through the merger of three institutes: Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT), Institute of Technology Sligo (IT Sligo), and Letterkenny Institute of Technology (LYIT).

• Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland – The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), also known as RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences, is a prestigious not-for-profit institution specializing exclusively in health sciences education and research. Established in 1784 by Royal Charter, RCSI has evolved from its origins as the national training body for surgery in Ireland to become a globally recognized university.
