Documents Required for MBBS Abroad: Admission vs Visa

TL;DR

Documents required for MBBS abroad sit in two files: university admission and the student visa. Admission typically needs Class 10 and 12 papers, a qualifying NEET-UG scorecard, passport scan and photos. The visa file needs an invitation, apostilled academics, medical papers, funds and insurance. NMC does not whitelist colleges. Police verification is only if that destination asks.

Definition

Documents required for MBBS abroad are the identity, academic, medical and financial papers an Indian or OCI student must present to a foreign medical university and, separately, to that country’s visa authority. An offer letter is not a visa. A NEET scorecard is the NMC eligibility certificate on the India-licensing route; it is not a seat and not an “NMC approved college” stamp.

Last updated: 11 September 2026 Breadcrumb: Home → MBBS Abroad → Admission → Documents required for MBBS abroad

Documents required for MBBS abroad are the first practical question after MBBS abroad eligibility is clear. Global Edge, in Green Park, New Delhi, builds that file for Russia , Georgia , Kazakhstan , Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan . The country map is the MBBS abroad hub . This page is the checklist — not a seat promise.

As of 11 September 2026 The working answer
NMC college list None. NMC does not endorse a foreign-university list
India eligibility paper Qualifying NEET-UG scorecard (result treated as Eligibility Certificate where GME criteria are also met)
Two files University admission documents ≠ student visa documents
Apostille Educational papers usually need MEA apostille for Hague destinations — confirm the university letter
Police clearance Only if the university or embassy checklist asks. Not an NMC document

Documents required for MBBS abroad: two files, not one pouch

Quick answer

Documents required for MBBS abroad are a university set plus a visa set. The university set is Class 10 and 12 marksheets and certificates, NEET-UG scorecard, passport copy and photographs. The visa set starts after an invitation or rector’s order: original passport, apostilled academics, medical/HIV papers where listed, funds, insurance and accommodation proof.

Families dump everything into one courier pouch. That is how a Russia HIV certificate expires while the invitation is still being typed, or a Georgia D3 file is filed without the ministry education order. Documents required for MBBS abroad only work when admission papers and visa papers stay on separate clocks.

Counsellor insight 1: Treat MBBS documents required as two clocks. The admission clock is “does this campus enrol you.” The visa clock is “does this country let you enter as a student.” Paying tuition does not move the second clock.

Evidence

NMC states that Indian citizens and OCIs intending to obtain a primary medical qualification outside India on or after May 2018 shall mandatorily qualify NEET; the result is deemed the Eligibility Certificate where Graduate Medical Education eligibility is also met; NMC does not endorse any list of foreign medical institutions.

Source: NMC — For Students to Study Abroad | https://www.nmc.org.in/information-desk/for-students-to-study-in-abroad/

Official guidance

“It is to clarify that the National Medical Commission does not endorse any list of Foreign Medical Institutions/ Universities for MBBS or equivalent course. The public at large is advised that before taking admission… confirmation of the fee structure, details of the course (which should be commensurate with the MBBS courses in India such as content, duration and internship) etc. should be directly obtained from the University/ Institution concerned.”

Source: NMC — For Students to Study Abroad | https://www.nmc.org.in/information-desk/for-students-to-study-in-abroad/

If a WhatsApp PDF titled “NMC approved documents list” includes a university name, it is marketing. Run the campus through how to check a foreign medical university before you apostille anything in that name.

Admission documents required for MBBS abroad

Quick answer

Admission documents for MBBS abroad are the papers the university uses to issue an offer: Class 10 and 12 marksheets and passing certificates, NEET-UG scorecard, passport bio page, photographs, and any application form or online-interview proof the faculty lists. A medical fitness certificate is common. A police clearance is not a standard admission paper unless that campus writes it.

This is the admission documents stack Global Edge actually collects before an application is uploaded — not a fantasy “complete kit” that mixes visa extras. Documents required for MBBS abroad at this stage are only what the faculty needs to type an offer.

Document Why the university asks Typical format Common fail
Class 10 marksheet + certificate Identity / date of birth / school trail Colour scan of originals; later apostille Name spelling vs passport
Class 12 marksheet + passing certificate PCB + English eligibility Full subject list visible Cropped PCB columns; improvement sheet not attached
NEET-UG scorecard India-path eligibility; some faculties refuse without it NTA PDF showing Qualified Using an expired three-year window
Passport bio page Name lock for the offer letter Valid passport, not Aadhaar Applying on Aadhaar “until passport comes”
Photographs Application portal / student card White background, recent Selfies; old school photos
Application / consent form University file Signed as the circular says Parent signed where the student must sign
Medical fitness (if listed) Hostel and enrolment Registered practitioner; tests as specified Generic “fit for sports” letter

NEET is not optional on the India route. Is NEET required for MBBS abroad? is the eligibility explainer. NTA published the NEET UG 2026 scorecard on 16 July 2026. NMC’s student-abroad page says that result is valid three years from the date of declaration, including any pre-medical or language year.

Do not treat a separate NMC Eligibility Certificate portal as a mandatory extra stamp for a 2026 joiner on this route. After May 2018, NMC’s published rule is that the NEET result is the Eligibility Certificate where GME criteria are also met. If a university still asks for a downloaded NMC portal print, follow that university’s letter — do not invent a second NMC exam.

Myth check

Myth: I need an NMC Eligibility Certificate from a separate portal before any foreign MBBS admission, even if I already qualified NEET in 2026.

Reality: On NMC’s student-abroad text, the NEET result is deemed the Eligibility Certificate from May 2018 onwards if Graduate Medical Education eligibility is also met. Keep the scorecard. A university may still ask for a portal print — that is their circular, not a secret second NMC whitelist.

Student visa documents required for MBBS abroad

Quick answer

Student visa documents start only after the destination issues the paper its mission recognises — usually a migration invitation, and for Georgia a ministry education order plus rector/dean admission order. Then: original passport, visa form, photos, apostilled academic certificates, NEET where listed, medical/HIV papers, funds, insurance and accommodation. An offer letter alone is not that file.

Russia — invitation, 18-month passport, HIV

MBBS in Russia uses a student visa, not visa-free study. Russian MFA consular guidance (study visas) asks for:

  • passport valid not less than 18 months from the start of visa validity
  • completed form from visa.kdmid.ru
  • original invitation issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs / MFA on the university’s request
  • HIV/AIDS negative certificate not older than 3 months for study visas when the stay exceeds 90 days

Source the live list from a Russian mission page such as Applying for a visa and the MFA consular note on study visas. India-facing appointments follow the Embassy of Russia / visa centre instruction in India — India mission FAQ.

Georgia — D3, not visa on arrival

MBBS in Georgia is a D3 study visa plus a residence permit. The Embassy of Georgia in India’s D3 study-visa checklist (filed at VFS; form uploaded on geoconsul.gov.ge) includes:

  • signed application; passport issued within 10 years, valid 3 months beyond the visa, two empty pages
  • USD 20 visa-fee evidence
  • travel booking
  • Ministry of Education order allowing study in Georgia
  • Rector/Dean admission order
  • NEET score card for MBBS or equivalent; educational documents apostilled at MEA
  • proof the foreign-language programme exists at that institution
  • accommodation proof; funds / notarised sponsorship + 3-month bank statements if sponsored
  • travel and health insurance for the visa validity
  • IELTS/TOEFL copy — not obligatory on this checklist

Operational checks on the India VFS Georgia page have included invitation freshness, MEA attestation age, sponsor-name match, and NEET validation at VFS for medical applicants. Rebuild the file from the live PDF before you book the slot.

Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan — invitation first

These three are invitation-based student visas, not tourist e-visas used as a degree pathway.

Destination What usually unlocks the visa Extra papers often seen on embassy/university lists Official starting point
Kazakhstan University / migration invitation Apostilled Class 10/12; medical/HIV if listed; funds; insurance Embassy of Kazakhstan in India; programme checks via studyinkz.kz
Kyrgyzstan University invitation / visa support Academic scans; medical if listed; do not treat a short-stay e-visa as full student status Kyrgyz MFA; e-visa portal evisa.e-gov.kg
Uzbekistan Visa invitation letter after admission Medical fitness; PCC if the university or mission asks; funds Embassy of Uzbekistan / current student-visa instruction; match the legal name after the 2025 Tashkent merger
Did you know?

Georgia’s D3 checklist makes NEET a visa document for MBBS-equivalent programmes, not only an India-licensing paper.

If you are still choosing a campus, how to choose an MBBS university abroad is the twelve-check page. Do not apostille a legal name you have not verified on WDOMS.

Passport, academic certificates and medical certificate in documents required for MBBS abroad

These three papers stall more files than a missing SOP. Documents required for MBBS abroad still fail when the passport surname, the Class 12 print and the medical date do not match the visa clock.

Passport. Apply on Passport Seva if you do not have one. Russia’s study-visa rule is 18 months’ validity from visa start, not “six months from travel.” Georgia wants a travel document issued within 10 years, three months’ validity beyond the visa, and two empty pages. Name on passport must match NEET and Class 12. A same-name affidavit with MEA attestation is a Georgia VFS theme when they do not.

Academic certificates. Class 10 and 12 originals are the trail. Boards differ: CBSE from 2014 is often on e-Sanad; many state-board sheets still need state education authentication then MEA apostille. Translations into Russian, Kazakh or Georgian are a university/mission add-on — not an NMC step.

Medical certificate. A general fitness letter is an enrolment paper. A Russia HIV certificate is a visa paper with a 90-day clock. Do not draw blood three months before the invitation exists. Georgia’s D3 list is travel/health insurance for visa validity, not a substitute for the university’s own enrolment medical.

Counsellor note

In counselling, the messy files are rarely “no Class 12.” They are a passport surname that does not match NEET, an HIV report dated in May while the Russia invitation arrives in August, or a Georgia pouch with an offer letter but no ministry education order. The university was ready. The mission was not.

Do I need police verification among documents required for MBBS abroad?

Quick answer

You need a Police Clearance Certificate only if the university circular or the destination mission checklist asks for one. PCC is not an NMC or NEET document. India’s MEA PCC page says PCC is issued to passport holders for residential status, employment, long-term visa or immigration — not for tourist travel. Apply via Passport Seva PCC.

Uzbekistan faculties sometimes list PCC; Georgia’s published D3 PDF does not make PCC a core row; Russia’s MFA study-visa list is invitation + HIV, not PCC. If a middleman says “every country needs PCC,” ask for the page. Start PCC early when it is listed, because police verification is slow. Do not delay a Russia invitation waiting for a PCC nobody asked for.

Apostille, name mismatches and the India paperwork queue

This is the India-student context that actually decides September files. Documents required for MBBS abroad are useless to a consul if the apostille lane is still open when classes start.

Hague Apostille is how Indian public documents are authenticated for use in other Convention parties. Confirm both India and the destination on the HCCH Apostille status table. Georgia’s D3 checklist already requires MEA apostille on educational documents. Other faculties write “apostille or legalisation” in the offer — follow that sentence, not a YouTube shortcut.

Practical India queue:

  • e-Sanad where the document sits in a digital depository (CBSE from 2014 is the classic example on esanad.nic.in).
  • State HRD / education authentication, then MEA apostille, where the board is not on e-Sanad.
  • Birth certificate and affidavits often go Home/SDM then MEA — different lane from marksheets.
  • Name mismatch (NEET vs passport vs Class 12) is a file-killer. Fix the identity trail before you pay apostille fees twice.
Evidence

e-Sanad is MEA’s online attestation/apostille route for documents that exist in a digital depository (including DIA/NAD integration). Physical apostille continues where the digital depository is not available.

Source: MEA e-Sanad | https://esanad.nic.in/home

Counsellor insight 2: Apostille is not “a stamp you buy in Karol Bagh in two hours” for every board. State-board 2026 pass-outs who start apostille in August for a September class are the files that miss the visa, not the interview.

If the six-year cost is the next worry after this pouch, use MBBS abroad fees — invoice first, not a “documents package” sold as tuition.

Need this stack checked against a named university before you apostille? That is a counselling hour, not a courier shop.

How to prepare documents required for MBBS abroad

Step by step
  1. Lock identity: passport name = NEET name = Class 12 name. Apply or re-issue the passport first if they differ.
  2. Download the NTA NEET scorecard and note the declaration date (2026: 16 July 2026) plus the three-year NMC window.
  3. Scan Class 10 and 12 marksheets and certificates in colour; keep originals for apostille.
  4. Shortlist the legal university name and confirm WDOMS + FMGL before you apostille that name.
  5. Submit the university application (admission documents only). Do not start visa-only medical tests yet.
  6. After the offer: start MEA apostille / e-Sanad on the papers the offer lists.
  7. Wait for the invitation / Georgia ministry + rector orders — then run HIV/medical tests that have a 90-day clock.
  8. If PCC is listed, apply on Passport Seva; if it is not listed, skip it.
  9. Build the visa pouch from the live embassy/VFS PDF, not from last year’s WhatsApp checklist.
  10. Book travel only after the visa instruction says you may — Georgia and Russia missions routinely warn against buying tickets too early.

When you should start that sequence relative to September class is the sibling page: MBBS abroad 2026-27 admission timeline .

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the documents required for MBBS abroad?

Class 10 and 12 certificates and marksheets, a qualifying NEET-UG scorecard, passport, photographs, then destination visa papers after invitation. Apostille, medical/HIV tests, funds, insurance and — only if listed — PCC sit on the visa or enrolment side. NMC does not issue a university-specific document pack. That full set is the documents required for MBBS abroad — split by desk, not dumped in one envelope.

Which admission documents required for MBBS abroad come first?

Universities typically want academics, NEET, passport scan and photos, plus their form. Some add a fitness certificate or an English interview. Admission documents get you an offer. They do not get you a visa.

Which student visa documents required for MBBS abroad come after the offer?

The paper the mission recognises (Russia/Central Asia invitation; Georgia ministry order + rector order), original passport, visa form, photos, apostilled academics, NEET where listed, medical/HIV if listed, funds, insurance and accommodation. Rebuild from the live checklist.

Do I need a police verification in the documents required for MBBS abroad?

Only if the university or embassy checklist asks for a Police Clearance Certificate. Apply via Passport Seva. PCC is not required by NMC to study medicine abroad.

Is a passport mandatory before I apply?

You can start counselling on a passport-in-process file. You cannot lock an offer or a visa on Aadhaar. Russia’s 18-month validity rule means a passport that expires next winter is already late.

Do academic certificates need apostille?

Georgia’s D3 checklist requires MEA apostille on educational documents. Other destinations usually follow the university letter and Hague status. Confirm the HCCH table and the offer. Do not skip apostille because a friend “went without it” in another year.

Is a medical certificate the same as the HIV test?

No. Fitness is often enrolment. Russia’s HIV-negative certificate is a study-visa paper valid three months. Time it after the invitation is in motion.

Can I use DigiLocker only, without originals?

Portals accept scans. Apostille and visa desks still want the authentication trail MEA or e-Sanad produces. DigiLocker is not a substitute for an apostille when the mission asks for one.

Does NMC give a document that “approves” my university?

No. NMC does not endorse a foreign-university list. Your India-path document is the qualifying NEET result plus, later, FMGL-shaped course evidence. See FMGE rules for MBBS abroad .

What if my name differs on NEET and my passport?

Stop and fix the identity trail — re-issue, affidavit, or both, as the destination checklist states. Georgia VFS has asked for MEA-attested same-name affidavits. Do not hope the consul will “understand.”

The Bottom Line

  • Documents required for MBBS abroad are two files: admission first, visa second.
  • Core admission papers: Class 10/12, NEET scorecard, passport, photos.
  • Visa papers follow the invitation (and Georgia’s ministry/rector orders), not the fee receipt.
  • Apostille and name mismatches delay more files than missing “SOPs.”
  • Police verification is checklist-driven, not an NMC rule.
  • NMC still publishes no college whitelist — verify the campus before you stamp anything in that name.

Guidance only: embassy PDFs and university circulars win over this page when they differ. Verify before you pay or fly.
