Study in UK 2027 is the same Student route with later clocks. A Graduate visa applied for on or after 1 January 2027 lasts 18 months for bachelor’s and master’s graduates; a PhD stays three years. Student living-cost sums rise from 30 November 2026. The visa fee is £558. Sponsors already face tighter compliance from 1 June 2026. A CAS, CEFR B2 at degree level, a TB test from India, and the 28-day funds rule did not go away.
Study in UK 2027 means a 2027 course start, a Student visa filed in late 2026 or 2027, and, later, a Graduate application dated in 2027 or 2028. The date that matters is the date UKVI receives that application, not the year printed on a brochure. Admission rules stay with the university. Immigration rules stay with UK Visas and Immigration.

The 2027 intake is being sold as a different country. It is not. Global Edge, from Green Park, New Delhi, still starts with a SPEC9 profile evaluation: marks, English, and a funds date that can survive 28 days. The country hub is Study in UK. Costs and the visa file for a 2026 filing sit in Study in UK for Indian Students: The Complete 2026 Guide.
What UK study rules have changed for 2027?
What changes if you’re planning a 2027 UK intake?
The rules that move are the Graduate length, living-cost figures from 30 November 2026, the £558 visa fee from 8 April 2026, and tighter sponsor compliance from 1 June 2026. A £925 provider levy is drafted from 1 August 2028. It is not a visa fee. Degree-level English is still CEFR B2.
| Change | When it bites | What it is not |
|---|---|---|
| Graduate visa 18 months (non-doctoral) | Application on or after 1 January 2027 | A cut if you apply on or before 31 December 2026 |
| PhD Graduate visa 3 years | Unchanged | A two-year master’s rule |
| Student maintenance uplift | Visa applications on or after 30 November 2026 | A change to university tuition |
| Student visa fee £558 | From 8 April 2026 | The health surcharge |
| Sponsor Basic Compliance Assessment | Assessments from 1 June 2026 | A new student application form |
| International student levy on providers | From 1 August 2028 | A line you add to the 2027 visa fee |
A Graduate visa lasts 2 years if you apply on or before 31 December 2026, and 18 months if you apply on or after 1 January 2027. A PhD or other doctoral qualification lasts 3 years. You must apply in the UK after the provider has told the Home Office you completed, and before the Student visa ends.

Is the Graduate Route really 18 months for a 2027 UK start?
Is the Graduate Route cut to 18 months for a 2027 intake?
Yes for bachelor’s and master’s graduates who apply on or after 1 January 2027. It is still two years if the Graduate application is made on or before 31 December 2026. A PhD stays three years. Starting a course in 2026 does not lock two years. The Graduate application date does. The visa cannot be extended. It is not settlement.
A September 2026 master’s that finishes in late 2027 will almost always file in 2027. That file is an 18-month file. Completing in 2026 and applying by 31 December 2026 can still be two years if you qualify. Do not plan a 2027 finish around the older length.
The Graduate visa page also lists a £937 application fee and a healthcare surcharge it describes as usually £1,035 a year on that route. Those sums sit after the degree. They are not the Student visa fee.
Myth: If I start my master’s in 2026, I still get a two-year Graduate visa when I finish in 2027.
Reality: UKVI dates the length from the Graduate application. Applications from 1 January 2027 are 18 months for non-doctoral awards. A 2026 start date does not freeze the older grant. Read Appendix Graduate, GR 8.1, in the month you complete.
Which 2027 changes affect you if you’re applying now?
Which of these changes matter if you file this year?
File the Student visa before 30 November 2026 and living costs are still £1,529 a month in London or £1,171 outside London, for up to nine months, held 28 days. File later and re-read the money page. If the Graduate application falls in 2027, budget 18 months, not two years. Sponsors already treat unused CAS letters more carefully.
UKVI’s money page, checked on 27 September 2026, still shows £1,529 and £1,171. The HC 584 explanatory memorandum of 3 September 2026 raises those sums from 30 November 2026 to match 2026/27 home maintenance loans. This page does not invent the new monthly figure ahead of GOV.UK.
The Student visa overview shows a £558 fee, up from £524 in the 8 April 2026 fee tables. IHS guidance sets £776 a year for students on applications from 6 February 2024. Sponsor compliance guidance requires a refusal rate under 5 percent and enrolment of at least 95 percent from 1 June 2026; completion rises to at least 90 percent from 1 June 2027. Take a CAS only for a course you will start. The Department for Education levy of £925 on providers starts 1 August 2028 — do not add it to a 2027 visa budget.
| Clock | 2026 filing | 2027 filing |
|---|---|---|
| Student living costs | £1,529 / £1,171 if you apply before 30 Nov 2026 | Re-read the money page; HC 584 has already announced an uplift |
| Student visa fee | £558 | £558 unless a later fee table changes it |
| Graduate length | 2 years only if you apply by 31 Dec 2026 | 18 months for non-doctoral applications |
| Sponsor pressure | Already in force from June 2026 | Same, with a higher completion mark from June 2027 |
India is not on the differential evidence list on the Student visa money page, so a first-time applicant should still plan to show the 28-day balance. That list did not grow because the Graduate route shortened.

What did not change for Indian students
A CAS is still required. Degree-level English is still CEFR B2. India still needs a TB test for a stay of six months or more. Dependants are still limited to government-sponsored students on a course longer than six months, or to a PhD, other doctorate, or research-based higher degree. Appendix Student still allows 20 hours a week in term for a full-time degree at a compliant provider. The process order is still offer, conditions, CAS, then visa — see UK Admission Process: Complete Journey from Shortlisting to Arrival.
What an Indian family should do differently for a 2027 UK intake
Parents often treat a 2026 start as a two-year work visa. It is not. After a master’s, assume 18 months unless a PhD is the plan. That is still time to look for work. It is not a settlement clock.
Keep the 28-day funds window on the Student visa, not on a rumour that India will be added to the differential list. Convert pounds on the week you freeze the balance. A loan letter from SBI, HDFC Credila, Avanse or Axis still has to match UKVI’s finance format.
A three-year Indian bachelor’s is still a course-page question. The 2027 rules did not create a national percentage. If you need another country in the shortlist, read Study in UK Visa Changes: Is the UK Still a Good Destination After the Graduate Route Cut?.
In counselling, the 2027 file fails on dates, not on ambition. A family budgets two Graduate years for a September 2026 master’s that cannot apply until autumn 2027. Another holds 2025 living-cost figures into a December 2026 visa week. The offer was real. The calendar was last year’s.
Guidance only. Re-read GOV.UK in the week you file.
Frequently Asked Questions
I start in September 2026. Do the 2027 Graduate visa rules apply to me?
If you apply for the Graduate visa in 2027, yes: 18 months for a bachelor’s or master’s. The course start year does not choose the length. Completing in 2026 and applying by 31 December 2026 can still be two years if you qualify. A PhD stays three years either side of that date.
Does a 2027 UK intake still need IELTS?
Not automatically. Degree-level study still needs CEFR B2. That can be a Secure English Language Test, the university’s own B2 assessment, or another route on the English page. The course cut-off can be higher. India is not on the nationality exemption list. A 2027 intake does not create a new national IELTS-only rule.
Will maintenance funds be higher for a 2027 UK intake?
If the Student visa is filed on or after 30 November 2026, yes — HC 584 raises the living-cost requirement that day. Until then the live money page still shows £1,529 and £1,171. Confirm the pounds on the day you start the 28-day hold. Tuition on the CAS is a separate figure.
Can I bring my spouse on a taught master’s in 2027?
Not on the ordinary taught route if the course starts on or after 1 January 2024. That restriction was not reversed for 2027. Dependants remain for government-sponsored study over six months, or for a PhD, other doctorate, or research-based higher degree. Read the family page against the course title on the CAS.
Is the £925 provider levy something I pay with my visa?
No. The Department for Education describes a £925 annual charge on higher-education providers from 1 August 2028. It is not a Student visa fee for a 2027 application. A university may change tuition later. That would show on the offer and the CAS, not as a Home Office levy line.
Did English requirements get harder for the UK 2027 intake?
The published degree-level visa floor is still CEFR B2. What got tighter is sponsor compliance and, from November 2026, the living-cost sum. Universities can still set a higher test score than B2. Check the course page and the CAS English method, not a WhatsApp “new IELTS 7.5 for everyone” list.
The Bottom Line
- Takeaway 1: A 2027 UK intake still needs a CAS, B2 English at degree level, a TB test from India, and 28-day funds.
- Takeaway 2: The Graduate visa is 18 months for non-doctoral applications from 1 January 2027. The application date, not the course start, decides it.
- Takeaway 3: Re-read the money page if you file on or after 30 November 2026. Do not invent next year’s monthly figure from a news table.
Global Edge can put your intake date next to those clocks in Delhi. UKVI still decides the visa.

Have the rules changed for a 2027 UK intake?
Yes for Graduate length, living-cost figures from 30 November 2026, the visa fee, and sponsor checks. No for the need for a CAS, B2 English, a TB test from India, or the taught-course dependant limit.
A 2027 UK intake can still fit when:
- You can fund the CAS plus a 28-day living-cost hold
- An 18-month Graduate visa after a master’s is enough for the job search
- A taught course without a partner on the visa is acceptable
A 2027 UK intake is a weak fit when:
- The plan needs two Graduate years after a 2027 finish
- Future wages are meant to prove today’s visa funds
- You need dependants on a taught master’s
